Producers and consumers

In one of my previous jobs, I was trying to build a community around a platform and I read books on 'behavior of communities'. One fascinating fact stood out and I still remember it: 90% of users in a community consume content, 9% of the users react/comment and 1% produce.

I've always thought about that number and I always ask myself which % am I, in whichever community I am part of. Am I the consumer or the creator/producer? If I am only consuming, I try really hard to get to the producer side of things. That is when I pick up hobbies - be it macrame, knitting, juggling or sketching. I might not be good at that or the best at that, but at least I am producing (like this blog).

It is ok to consume, but do you / can you spend at least 10% of that time producing something? If you are on Instagram 3 hours a day, can you at least try to make/produce something for 20 minutes to start with. You can slowly increase so that one day you invert it - maybe get to 2 hours of consuming and 2 hours of producing.

But try. Start with 20 mins. Produce a photo, a blog, journalling, crochet, a song, music, something, anything.
