Top 5% rule
One of the constants in today's world of AI, wars and civil unrest is uncertainty. "What can I do now to be relevant?" Be it what college course to take or what skill to learn for a job, the uncertainty is ever increasing and never settling.
The answer to that is to be in the top 5% of whatever you choose to do. That is what my uncle told me when I joined my mechanical engineering course in college, decades ago. I was not sure where I would go from there or which job to take. His advice that day still holds true: "If you are the cream of the class [or organization], there will always be good opportunities that will come your way."
So don't overthink it. Whatever you do, give it your best and be the top 5% of your class or job or sports. It will never go out of fashion. There will be someone willing to pay for your service.
